While acute coronary syndrome is a potentially fatal condition, there are other fatal etiologies of acute chest pain. The 2021 Chest Pain guidelines address these non-coronary causes of chest pain including pulmonary embolism, acute aortic dissection, myopericarditis and valvular heart disease. These require their own set of diagnostic testing and clinical suspicion.
