Chest pain can be concerning for coronary artery disease. The 2021 Chest Pain Guidelines were released with the objective of focusing on prompt diagnosis and choosing the correct workup for the individual patient. In the acute setting, electrocardiograms (EKGs) should be obtained immediately and high sensitivity troponins should be utilized as the cardiac biomarker of choice. For intermediate risk patients, providers should know how to choose the appropriate noninvasive stress test to improve diagnostic yield. The guidelines also focus on stable angina and promote noninvasive testing as well as medical management as first line over invasive testing.
