An Unusual Etiology of Severe Right Heart Failure Deserving of Wider Recognition
Abstract:
A previously healthy 31-year-old male presented with worsening shortness of breath and petechial rash. Echo showed severe right-side heart failure with mid-systolic notching of the antegrade RV outflow Doppler envelope suggesting pulmonary arterial hypertension. An extensive workup revealed scurvy with a dramatic resolution of symptoms shortly after vitamin C supplementation.
